Remember Why You Started

It’s hot, humid and halfway through the year! It feels like we just rejoiced when 2020 came to a close and, now, we’re seeing ads about school supplies! And then there’s that 2021 list of goals and dreams…what’s happening with that? Well, guess what? There’s plenty of year left. This is a perfect time for a reset, especially if buying or selling a home was on that list.

Remember how excited you were at the prospect of writing your next chapter of “home?” It’s time to revisit the reason you started and bring back that enthusiasm! Maybe you never really got started. Maybe you gave up after hearing and/or experiencing the 2021 real estate market. In the words of Charles Spurgeon, “Begin as you mean to go on.” Here are some ideas for buyers and sellers to get back on track!

Buyer Action Steps

  • Find a real estate agent that listens, understands and acts on your behalf. If you don’t feel you have that person in your corner, it’s time to adjust.

  • Find a lender who does all of the above. Start the process and obtain a pre-approval letter. If you have a letter, make sure it is current according to your lender’s requirements.

  • Revisit your wish list to see if it’s realistic and still meets your needs.

  • Explore or confirm your sources of cash/funds to cover down payment, earnest money and closing costs. If you’re not comfortable, make a plan to grow that account.

  • Be intentional about the homes you visit. If the location, size, layout or price don’t line up with your goals, don’t go. Save your time and energy.

Seller Action Steps

  • See Step One under “Buyer Action Steps”! Find a great agent!

  • Consider a pre-listing home inspection that identifies areas to address before listing.

  • Ask for honest advice about preparing your home to list.

  • Declutter, clean and make repairs. If you stopped this process, begin again!
Have a plan for your next chapter of home.

Remember why you started, regroup and the rest will fall into place!
